23. I am grateful to Richard Seitz of the Slavic and East European Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for his assistance in searching for notices of Molokhovets’ death. In the absence of any solid evidence to the contrary, Seitz hypothesizes, and I concur, that Molokhovets was still alive in late 1916 or 1917 since Vengerov included her date of birth, but not her date of death, in his collection of materials for a dictionary of Russian writers. This is a fragile supposition, but it seems plausible.
