When it comes to buying chicken, my preference is for a good free-range, preferably organic, bird because, as we have seen, this gives a superior flavour and texture to both the eggs and the meat. My favourite place to buy a chicken would always be direct from a farm shop, as you can see how the chickens are reared and talk to the people who tend them. You get a real sense of where your food is coming from and I try and do this with all the meat and vegetables I buy. It also helps to inspire me to create new recipe ideas. You may have a local butcher or farm shop near you, but many supermarkets also stock superior-quality products. In addition, the internet now gives you access to great-quality free-range and organic chicken direct from the farms and delivered to your door, so no one needs to miss out on great-quality meat.
