There are a handful of places to get an old-school, hot roast beef sandwich in Brooklyn, New York, but some of the best come from the south end of Nostrand Avenue in the neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay. Brennan and Carr has been open since 1938 and has not changed much about the way they do things there. The waiters still wear ties and white jackets, the beer on tap is ice cold, and the roast beef is made every day in-house. Places like Roll-N-Roaster nearby and John’s Deli both make excellent hot roast beef sandwiches, but Brennan and Carr, with almost ninety years in the roast beef business, is hard to beat. And it’s all about the dipping station.
