Oats have a very annoying tendency to boil over despite my best efforts. Erik once had them boil over on him while he was stirring (and looking at his phone simultaneously). I’ve tried all the old wives’ remedies and have found the only thing that works is to use a saucepan that is slightly larger than you think you need so that there is enough volume in the pot for the oats to boil up and not go over the edge.
