  • About

Rachel Roche is a fourth-generation rice and crawfish farmer in Lake Arthur, Louisiana. Alongside her dad, she rotationally cultivates 300 acres every year on their 600-acre farm. The acreage left out of the rice production either lies fallow or is used for their growing crawfish operation. I didn’t know anything about growing rice or farming in Louisiana and wanted to know how Rachel’s day-in and day-out is similar to or different from that of growers in the Great Lakes region. Ms. Roche took the time to tell me about her farm (after working until sundown) in mid-March 2020.
