  • About
The region of Umbria, though less well-known than that of Tuscany, is no less beautiful. The towns that dot the hillsides are steeped in history. Umbria falls roughly into two distinct landscapes. To the east, the Apennine mountains march proudly down from the north; in the lower-lying west, the mountains give way to gentle rolling hills that are much more conducive to farming. Agriculture remains the chief occupation of the area. The olive oil produced here is sweet, and considered by many to be the finest in Italy; the vineyards make delightful wines; and the wheat crop is made into the best-quality pasta.
