The peaceful region of Le Marche, on the eastern coast of Central Italy, has seen an influx of foreign tourists in the last decade, thanks to its beautiful coastlines and idyllic countryside; one of the things that makes this region so attractive is its breathtakingly unspoilt vista.
The landscape is characterised by a rugged and mountainous hinterland that gently rolls towards the Adriatic Sea to the east, and this unforgiving terrain forces most of the population to live near the coast. The sparsely populated inland areas are home to remote mountain gorges, waterfalls and caves. The Adriatic coast has many beach resorts and fishing towns, such as Recanati, where people flock to enjoy delicious fish and shellfish dishes at the local seafront restaurants.
