  • About
Catholics traditionally abstain from consuming certain rich foods for the 40 days before Easter, both as penance for their sins, and to reflect on Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. Today, many Italians still make sacrifices or changes to their lives during Lent. The most well-known rule is meatless Fridays, when people eat stick to fish and vegetables. Indeed, some Italian Catholics refrain from eating meat on Fridays all year round, but this is a personal choice and no longer a Church rule.
