The question was as inevitable as the darkness of winter. November had just laid her cold damp hands on us, and the merchants had already begun to set up their kitschy Christmas decorations. And, just as sure as there would be six weeks of pre-Christmas parties, shopping, and preparations, there would also be the ever-returning question: “So, what are you having for Christmas?” meaning, “What are you and your family eating for Christmas Eve supper?” I have always tried to dodge the subject, for I know I cannot answer to the satisfaction of the questioner.
