So often it is the sauces spiced with the flavours from my life and travels that spark feelings of family and home.
All of us are brought up on certain foods โ ones our mothers and fathers, and their mothers and fathers, were fond of, were able to cook, and most of all could afford. We really do tend to continue to eat the foods and dishes we have known all of our lives, and one of these for me is kiri hodi, a wonderful mild coconut milk gravy.
When we first arrived in Sri Lanka, my beautiful grandmother kept me very close to her, and made the first kiri hodi I ever tried. It really was an amazing experience for my little English tastebuds, an explosion of flavour and intensity that was unfamiliar to me but completely exciting.
