“Naturally, we wanted to grow our own produce, so in 2013 a three acre kitchen garden was developed in the field next to the restaurant. Having the garden allowed us to grow food that was unique to us, such as crapaudine beetroot, black truffle potatoes and wineberries.”

The Banks family have lived and farmed around Oldstead for many generations; it is very much our creation and passion. We opened The Black Swan Oldstead on 1st August 2006 (Yorkshire Day!) and Tommy’s recent venture, Roots York, opened on 15th September 2018 in partnership with Matthew Lockwood. Tommy Banks is chef owner of both restaurants.
