“I wanted to farm in a way that was more in tune with nature, and gave farm animals the chance of a good life, one where they could express their innate behaviours.”

Farming’s in my blood, and from the age of eight, that’s what I wanted to do. I grew up at Eastbrook Farm, 1350 acres which runs from the top of the Marlborough Downs in North Wiltshire down to the heavy clay land of the Vale of the White Horse. We’re Church of England tenants, and my father, Bob Browning, came here in 1950. Following my degree in Agricultural Technology at Harper Adams in 1986, I took over the reins on the farm; I was only 24, so it was a bold move by my father, especially as I was already set to kick over the traces.
