“It’s nice knowing the cows by name, not just as a number on a screen, and keeping the herd small means we can put their happiness high on the priority list.”

We’re a small family farm in the beautiful countryside of Wensleydale, selling fresh milk, making cheese and looking after our herd of Friesian cows. Myself and my brother Adam run the business alongside our parents, David and Susan, and my wife Samantha. Our grandparents Harold and Nora Spence bought The Home Farm in 1953 and started producing dairy. Today, there’s about 100 head of cattle so we’re still a small farm by modern standards, but we do this because it’s always been the way to add value and stick with quality over quantity for us.
