My husband Andy and I started our family business, JCS Fish, back in 2000 so it’s just celebrated its 20th anniversary. We’re both from Grimsby families with fishing backgrounds and Andy had spent the first part of his career working for his family firm. But we wanted a new challenge, and Andy had so much knowledge and experience in salmon that a new venture focused on that one fish seemed a natural step. We named it JCS in honour of Jack Carlisle Smith, a local hero in the fish industry who had been an important mentor to Andy in the early part of his career.
