“We’re proud to remain a family farm, and like my father and grandfather always told me, we have to farm for the future. Fish farming is still such a young industry, with so much to offer. It’s exciting, and a big responsibility.”

I was a farmer’s son in Lincolnshire, and thought I would either take the farm over or do something similar when I grew up. But I was also keen for my own adventure. When I was at agricultural college, an article interested me about the beginnings of fish farming in Denmark. I had always loved eating fish and trout fishing. I got a summer job with a wonderful couple in Dumfries, Graeme and Kirsten Gordon, who were establishing themselves as trout farmers and became mentors to me. Graeme persuaded Stirling University that young trout farmers needed aquacultural courses, and I attended the first ever disease management course there.
