I remember my childhood mealtimes as exciting and delicious. We would eat lasagne, beef Bourguignon and veal when my school friends were eating pork chops and fish fingers. It sounds decadent, but it wasn’t – it was just that my Mum had a passion for food, cooking and all things new. Once a month she received her Cordon Bleu cookery magazine full of pictures of exotic food – meringues, gateaux, roulades, creations in aspic and tall puddings. I think that must have been when my passion for food was born – the hundreds of fabulous dishes that Mum put in front of us. I was very lucky to have that love awakened in me so early. We all need to eat, so to be able to enjoy eating and take great pleasure in sharing food with friends and family as part of everyday life is a true gift (thank you Mum).
