My Kitchen Rules South Africa is a competitive cooking show with real people who love to cook for friends and family. I’ve shot two seasons now with my co-presenter, J’Something, and it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience. I’ve met some amazing people and travelled to parts of South Africa I never thought I’d see, and will never forget.

Teaching with Bill Stafford, and at the Higgs School of Good Cooking, as I mentioned, was energising. When I was asked to be a presenter for MKR SA it was a difficult decision to make. On one hand, I had wanted to do a television show for a long time, but on the other, I had to consider whether it would help or hinder my career, Marble, and my partnership with Gary, and whether I would become the kind of celebrity chef that I loathed. Tessa Graham, a former business partner of Jamie Oliver’s, helped me make the decision to go ahead with the show and, together, we decided it would be a good time to finally write this book.
