Selecting spirits is a matter of taste, opinion, preference and palate – these are what will determine your choices. There is a reason why there are hundreds of gins on the market – it’s because people are looking to keep tasting different things. Of course, at home you’re not going to have a selection of each spirit to choose from – even we don’t here; we only have two vodkas, for example – so all I can advise about choosing your spirits is to keep trying different products to work out what you like. Of course, you can get quite a good range of decent spirits in the supermarket, but I would recommend buying at specialist spirit shops. Not only will you get a wider selection, but additionally the staff will be knowledgeable and be able to advise you. They’ll know the distilleries and makers of the products and will be able to recommend how you get the best quality of bottle for your budget. And above all, they’ll be able to help you ascertain what you might like. Alternatively, shown here I’ve listed some of the best online stockists for spirits; they’ve all got tasting notes so that you can make an informed decision about what you’re buying.
