The equipment you buy and invest in really depends on how much you want to get experimental and serious with your drinks and how far you want to go with them. So for that reason, I’ve divided this section into two categories: for the novice, i.e. the minimum of kit I think you need at home to mix drinks well; then equipment for the enthusiast. The latter are things we have at the bar that will take your drinks to the next level. Of course, there are things that could be added to this list depending on personal preference; many bartenders might consider a mandolin indispensable for example, but I’m not really a fan – I’ve sliced up my fingers too many times to feel they’re really worth investing in. Either way, this list should be enough to get you started and help you decide what you want to fork out for, and what isn’t worth it for you.
