Every year, about eight weeks before Chinese New Year, my mother and our neighbour, Aunty Paddy, would begin their annual cottage enterprise.

Aunty Paddy lived across the street from us at Yarrow Gardens and had been our neighbour for more than 30 years. The two ladies baked cookies and sold them to friends and regular customers. They ran their businesses separately in their respective kitchens but found joy in sharing their daily ‘production reports’ and labour of love.
