  • About
In the Yorkshire town of Denby Dale, they like to bake a big pie.
No one knows just why Denby Dale decided to start baking giant pies. The first one was baked in the White Hart pub in 1788 to celebrate that ‘mad king’ George III had come back to his senses. The second was baked in 1815 for the victory in the Battle of Waterloo. A third pie was baked in 1846 to celebrate the repeal of the corn laws that kept the price of grain imports high for 30 years. The law was enforced to keep grain prices high to favour domestic producers, which led many to starvation.
