In 1985 Christine Manfield abandoned the safe haven of a teaching career to pursue an ambition of perfecting the art and science of cooking in the professional arena. She started life as a chef in the South Australian seaside town of Robe before moving to the Petaluma Restaurant in the Adelaide Hills.
