I come from a family of food lovers. My grandmother won the 1964 National Sunbeam Chicken Cooking Contest for her Blushing Chicken recipe. (She got a tableful of electric appliances and a red velvet cape and crown.) My grandfather either clipped or hand copied (this was before copy machines) hundreds of recipes. Many of these he cooked, but the majority made up a collection that he planned to cook “someday.” I still have a shoe box full of these little bits of paper. My dad saved margarine tubs for the homemade pâté he gave to neighbors at Christmastime.
