Pruning plants in the edible garden is done for a multitude of reasons. Pruning away and discarding diseased plant matter is probably the main reason why you would want to actively prune. Another reason is to encourage proper airflow. Pruning is also performed to encourage a vining crop to grow in a certain formation, direction, or pattern.
It is critical to understand a crop’s growth habits before reaching for the pruners because you can potentially cut away the growth tip, which may spell disaster for the plant in question. Keen observation is important, as stated earlier.
