If you reside in zone 10 or higher, luckily for you, many of the concerns listed above do not apply. However, your summer crops will eventually succumb to disease or simply old age. Prune at the base and discard or compost as outlined above. At that point, based on your zone and climate, you can decide to switch to cool-weather crops or consider growing a cover crop. Cover crops are used to increase soil fertility in the off-season. By growing a cover crop such as grasses or legumes, you are helping give back to your soil after it has given you so much throughout the growing season.
