Avoid running cold water into a hot ceramic insert—the sudden temperature change could cause the ceramic to crack. Clean the insert and the lid with regular dish soap or in a dishwasher. I’ve done a lot of experimenting, shall we call it, in my slow cookers and have occasionally ended up with the absolute worst stuck-on, burned mess in the insert. An overnight soak and a good scrubbing with a scouring pad, sometimes with some baking soda, have done the trick every time. I never use plastic slow cooker liners, because the ceramic pots are easy enough to clean and the liners just seem like more trouble than they’re worth.
