It’s hard to think of a better souvenir than tins of fish. They’re compact, the cans are often beautiful, and they give you a chance to look back wistfully while eating a really great sandwich or snack plate. I love the scavenger hunt involved in locating the best source for tins when I’m visiting a new city—it’s a little like collecting mushrooms in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

But even if your travel is limited (as mine was while writing this book, thanks to COVID-19), there are plenty of online shops around the country and around the globe, each with its own character and style of curation. Here’s a guide to some of my favorite spots for stocking up.
