  • About

Berry Street Foundling Home Infant Welfare and Cookery Book, 1937 (State Library of NSW). An image of babies taking fresh air with their nurses, in the grounds of the original East Melbourne home, from the organisation’s 1912-13 annual report (courtesy Berry Street Archives).

Dispensing advice to young mothers on caring for their newborn babies was an important part of life at the Berry Street Foundling Hospital and Infants’ Home. Still operating after more than 140 years and known simply as Berry Street, the organisation has become Victoria’s largest independent provider of child and family services.
