Ruth Franks was only eighteen when she met the love of her life one night at a party in 1953. Just like the lyrics of ‘Some Enchanted Evening’, the apprentice hairdresser from Kogarah spotted a good-looking stranger across a crowded room and was instantly smitten. Bruce Richards was equally taken with the gorgeous blonde, dressed in a button-up skirt and scoop-necked peasant blouse. According to their daughter, Debra, he then proceeded to lure her with his mellifluous baritone, when he was asked to sing the romantic show tune that captured so perfectly the magic of that night.
