After all the raving about living plant-passionately, here is a question I am always, always asked. Is it all or nothing with veganism? My response is a tricky one because it gets me into trouble with “all-in” vegans.

My answer is no. It’s not all or nothing; it’s not a religion or a cult. Eating and living a vegan lifestyle, ideally...ideally harms no living creature. It’s the epitome of compassion and, for me, a lifestyle to which we can all aspire.

I do, however, live in the real world where, for whatever reason, people cannot adopt a completely vegan lifestyle. Maybe people find their budgets won’t allow for it where they live; maybe they are afraid they can’t get the proper nutrition; maybe they don’t like vegetables or hate to cook. Maybe they’re nervous their health will suffer and they won’t thrive if they give up animal products. Maybe they simply have no interest in going “all-in” or even trying it on for size.
