Like many kids, I started out in the kitchen helping my mom with some home baking; my specialties were simple things that required a lot of stirring like muffins, cakes, and cookies. I graduated to following a recipe on my own (but not yet to washing dishes, to her displeasure), rolled up my sleeves, and continued to love the act of measuring, kitchen chemistry, and perfectibility that goes hand-in-hand with baking and desserts.
Though I don’t consider myself a fine-tuned or overly adventurous baker, I do love to eat desserts, and much of the point of making sweets is about sharing the sweetness with others.
