New York has long been famous for its bakeries and it’s hardly surprising as it was the first stop for many of the immigrants arriving from some of the world’s great baking nations. The Germans, Austrians, Hungarians, Poles and Jewish people from all over Eastern Europe settled here, as did many Italians and French, bringing their traditional recipes with them. More recently, the Big Apple saw a bakery boom, which partnered the explosion in the New York restaurant scene, and artisanal bakeries are continuing to spring up all over the city. New Yorkers would argue that they have the best bakeries in the world and whether you’re after a cupcake, éclair or a big slice of cheesecake, there are plenty of places where you can recover from the bustle of NYC.
