Katie Caldesi and her husband Giancarlo own the Caldesi restaurants and cookery schools based in London's Marylebone, Bray on Thames and Gerrards Cross. Katie is the principal of their cookery school, La Cucina Caldesi, where she teaches alongside some of the biggest names in Italian cuisine, including Ursula Ferrigno , Carmela Sereno Hayes and Valentina Harris. Together Katie and Giancarlo have co-authored many cookbooks 10 of which have been on the food of regional Italy while the others explored the world of food preservation, salads from around the world. Katie's book 'The Italian Cookery Course' was nominated for a James Beard award. The Caldesi's 'The Diabetes Weight Loss Cookbook' an Amazon best seller was written as a result of Katie's husband Giancarlo being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and explores the low-carb diet. The whole Caldesi family undertook changing their diet to low-carb and the book explores the science behind the diet (with contributions from the 'Low Carb GP' Dr David Unwin and nutritionist Jenny Phillips) and is packed full of recipes that Katie and Giancarlo developed along their journey into low-carb eating. Giancarlo lost nearly 4 stone on the diet and reversed the symptoms of his illness. Katie's low carb cookery books include ' The Reverse Your Diabetes Cookbook' , 'The Caldesi Low-carb Christmas', 'The 30 Minute Diabetes Cookbook'. Most recently Katie has co-authored 'An Italian Cookbook for Children & Grown-ups' with her husband Giancarlo, the book explores healthy Italian cookery and is aimed at the younger cook.
