This dish was allegedly served at the court of the Duke of Montefeltro in his palace in Urbino. Federico da Montefeltro was perhaps the greatest of all Renaissance men: a great soldier, statesman, humanist, man of letters and patron of the arts. His palace stands witness to his artistic taste, and this dish proves that he was also a connoisseur of gastronomic delights.
