Truly Colonial America’s first butter, it’s best served on toast for grown-ups and sandwiches for kids. Depending on the sweetness of the fruit, it can be made without the addition of sugar or spices for a true fruity flavor.
Combine the apples with the cider in a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Simmer for 25 minutes, or until the apples are soft, stirring from time to time to prevent the apples from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
