Take half a Peck of Flour, a Pound and half of Butter, put it in a Sauce-pan, with a Pint of new Milk, set it on the Fire, take a Pound of Sugar and half an Ounce of All-spice beat fine, mix them with the Flour. When the Butter is melted, pour Milk and Butter in the Middle of the Flour, and work it up like Paste. Pour in with the Milk Half a Pint of good Ale Yeast, set it before the Fire to rise, just before it goes to the Oven. Either put in some Currants or Carraways-seed, and bake it in a quick Oven. Make it into two Cakes, they will take an Hour arid half baking.
