Unlikely as it sounds, Greg Thouard entered the world of show cooking through water skiing. He was out at Glenlyon Dam enjoying a favourite pastime with his mate Russell Crisp, when Greg happened to mention that he made a pretty good sponge. Russell claimed he could make a better one. The two men decided the only way to prove who was the best cook of this light and airy delicacy was to enter the Stanthorpe Show and let a qualified judge decide.
