Virado à Paulista is a whole-meal dish from the state of São Paulo. The dish varies according to the establishment (or cook) that is serving it, but usually consists of pork chops, sausage, rice, a chunky bean puree, collard greens, fried bananas and a fried egg.

Legend has it that Dom Pedro I ate this dish on his way from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo, where he performed the “Grito do Ipiranga” (“Cry of Ipiranga”), proclaiming Brazil’s independence from Portugal. I don’t know if that
