This Latin American soup usually is served cold, but on a San Francisco summer day, when the fog comes in earlier than expected, it’s delicious heated up for dinner.

Garnish the soup with whipped cream flavored with grated lime zest and lime juice, or go for a more Mexican taste with fried tortilla strips, paper-thin tiny lime wedges and sour cream, or diced tomatoes and chopped cilantro with a sprinkling of finely minced sweet red onion.
