Sometimes, after a day or two, cake is just not at its best, so here are some ideas to give it a new lease of life.


Toasted Cake

This works really well with things like muffins and undecorated loaves and cakes. Just heat a dry frying pan on a medium heat, and then toast slices of your leftover cake on both sides until it’s gone golden and a little crispy. The Giant Lemon Drizzle, Breakfast Smoothie Muffin or First Class Muffin both make an amazing breakfast sliced into fat discs, toasted and served with Greek yoghurt and some Berry Compote.

Hot Mess

This is a huge hit on our street food menu. It’s just cake, warmed through (in a microwave, preferably) and served with ice cream, Dark Chocolate Glaze and Brown Sugar Glaze. We make it with any of the following: Caramel Brownie, Double Chocolate Muffins, Raspberry & White Chocolate Cookie Bars, Salted Caramel Crumble Bar and sometimes even one of the millionaires (making the messiest of all the Hot Messes). It may not be pretty but it is, we promise, delicious.

Filled Savoury Scones

It’s not all sweet stuff. Filled Savoury Scones often make an appearance on our Sunday brunch menu and they go down a storm. Warm a cheese scone through in a hot oven, then fill it with cooked bacon, scrambled eggs and a dollop of Spicy Tomato Sauce. It’s also lovely with cooked, sliced vegetarian sausages and a softly poached egg.
