When the editors of the old Cook’s magazine thought a chocolate walnut pie would be too heavy for an article on chocolate desserts to appear in a summer issue, I suggested to then-food editor Pam Anderson that she add a little flour to the filling and bake it in a square pan, for a brownielike result. Months later, much to my surprise, when the issue finally appeared, these chocolate walnut squares were pictured on the cover!
