These knots enclose a buttery filling between 2 layers of dough, a horizontal version of Danish Snails. The crumb topping is an American addition and its crispness makes a gentle contrast to the tender pastry. The variation, Danish Pretzels, below, is one of the most attractive looking of all pastries.
