Dad transformed marzipan into colourful miniature fruits: apples, bananas, pears, oranges and more. My nephew, Nick, loves them. For his tenth birthday Dad made him a special birthday cake decorated with marzipan fruits. I doubt any other child has ever had a cake quite like that!

Ingredients

  • 500 g marzipan
  • Food colouring in orange, yellow, green and red

Method

Divide the marzipan into 5 x 100g pieces.

Oranges Colour a portion of marzipan orange using roughly 2-3 drops of orange food colouring, then divide the coloured marzipan into 6 pieces. Roll each of these into the ball shape of an orange, moulding the shape between the palms of your hands. Gently rub each piece over a grater to give the surface the appearance of orange peel. Press
