Ginger and Date Cake

This is a classic combination of two of Dad’s favourite ingredients: ginger and dates. I made it one summer’s day and the family all enjoyed tea and cake in Johnny’s pretty garden overlooking the vineyard where Dad helped to trim the vines in his retirement. He even drove a tractor there on several occasions, which he loved, like a big kid.
