Donuts have been popular for so long that they have their own distinct culture. For example, can somebody explain to me why donut holes are so feverishly beloved? Ever worked in an office? Whenever some jackass shows up to work with a box of donut holes, suddenly he’s a conquering hero and the greatest person who has ever lived. I don’t get it, but such is the power of the donut hole. My first ever try and making proper deep-fried yeasted donuts. Jason's recipe worked a treat (I expected nothing less). Rather than making ring donuts with a matcha glaze, I am going to be filling them with matcha crème pâtissière, left over from my weekend experiments making taiyaki (Japanese filled waffles in the shape of a fish).
UPDATE: the only slight mistake I made was using unsalted butter. The dough recipe does not specify, but I think it would definitely benefit either from salted butter, or a pinch of salt...
