  • Onions 2, peeled and thinly sliced

  • Combine ingredients for spice paste in a food processor and blend until smooth. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a wok. Fry the onions, cinnamon, cardamoms, cloves and star anise until fragrant.
  • Add the prepared spice paste, coriander, fennel and cumin powders and pepper to the wok. Cook over low heat until fragrant and the oil surfaces.
