This berry sauce can be made with any berry you like, or a combination of a few. Serve over cheesecake or angel food cake, or with strawberry shortcake.

Method

  1. In a medium saucepan, add the water, juice, cornstarch, and sugar, and whisk to combine.
  2. Add the fresh fruit to the pan. If using strawberries, hull and quarter them first.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, for about 4–5 minutes until the liquid is rapidly bubbling.
  4. Remove from the heat, stir in the zest, and let cool before servin
