Streusel is a crumbly mixture of flour, butter, and sugar. It often also has nuts and/or oats added to it as well. Streusel topping is most commonly used on fruit pies, a crisp, or a crumble, and should be added right before the pie goes into the oven. It can also be used to top muffins, batter breads, and cakes.
