The honeylike sweetness of dates, unencumbered by a confusion of spices, distinguishes this light, classic tea loaf. Nuts and dates really do have a natural affinity. It is no accident that they have been paired since biblical times.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • ½ stick

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8 X 4-inch loaf pan.
  2. Pour the boiling water over the dates; let stand until needed.
  3. With an electric mixer or by hand, beat the butter until creamy in a large bowl. Gradually beat in the sugars and c
