We have happy childhood taste-memories of these most innocent of cookies, a permitted treat when we were very young. And we still maintain a certain fondness for the packaged hard-baked, golden wafers. Our recipe produces a crisp-edged, pale ivory disc with a tender center. Good enough for children, as well as adults.
